§ 34.36. TERM OF OFFICE.

  • The Mayor and Councilmen shall be elected for terms of four (4) years. Three (3) Councilmen shall be elected in the general election to be held in October 1977, and subsequently elected in the general elections to be held every fourth year thereafter. The Mayor and three (3) other Councilmen shall be elected in the general election to be held in October 1979, and subsequently elected in the general elections to be held every fourth year thereafter. The terms of office for the Mayor and Councilmen shall commence on the first day of the month immediately following their election. If an election is contested the incumbent shall hold over in office until the contest is finally decided. When a special election is held to fill any vacant unexpired term of the office of Mayor or Councilman, the person elected to fill such term shall not take office until the time for protesting the election has passed. If a protest is filed the person elected shall not take office until the protest is finally resolved.
